About Us

Our Story

Our official story starts in a North Minneapolis home, less than 1 mile from our current campus in Brooklyn Center, with a handful of immigrants from Sweden, men and women on their knees together, believing God was calling them to form a new church body which they would name Camden Covenant Church for the neighborhood they served.

Now, more than 120 years later, Brookdale Covenant Church continues to be a church of prayer, a place of friendships formed by welcoming the stranger, and a group of people committed to serving the neighborhood and community that surrounds us.  With confidence in God’s faithfulness, Brookdale continues to be a vibrant faith community.  We’d love to meet you too….

Our Denomination

We are a local family of faith deeply connected to our community and to the broader Covenant Church.

The Evangelical Covenant Church is a rapidly growing multi-ethnic denomination in the United States and Canada with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God’s grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through a faith with Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God’s love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.

For Covenant people, our essential beliefs are summed up in what we call Covenant Affirmations:

  • We affirm the centrality of the word of God.

  • We affirm the necessity of the new birth.

  • We affirm a commitment to the whole mission of the church.

  • We affirm the church as a fellowship of believers.

  • We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.

  • We affirm the reality of freedom in Christ.
