Renee Franzen-Senior Pastor
Pastor Renee loves Jesus and Brookdale Church fiercely. She has served on the pastoral team since 2011 and became lead pastor in 2019. Her passions include providing spiritual direction to clergy, missionaries and lay persons, as well as providing spiritual direction supervision through the C. John Weborg Center for Spiritual Direction at North Park University. She and her husband Tim find great delight in spending time with their grandsons (who call her Nanaroni).
Peter Frost-Associate Pastor
Pastor Peter loves students and investing in the emerging generation. He is passionate and committed to seeing the Image of God honored in all persons, and believes that God’s promise of justice, grace, mercy, and the restoration of all things is the key to human flourishing now and in the future. Peter loves being outside with his family, long-distance running, and reading (for which there never seems to be enough time). Peter and his wife, Tierney, live in Robbinsdale with their wonderful son, Eli.
Brenda Johnson-Children, Youth, and Family Ministries Director
Brenda loves, loves, loves kids. She is a creative genius, Brenda produces puppet shows, online book reading videos, and any other project that enters her mind. She loves drawing kids into creative experiences and encounters with God through story and art. Brenda is also the curator of the TOV Community Garden. She and her husband Mark live in Brooklyn Center where she also manages Tangles, her homebased hair salon.
Tim Armstrong- Worship Leader
Tim has a passion for sharing the gospel through music. He also has a talent for spotting musical excellence in our church family and putting it to good use! He and his wife Patti have three daughters.
Annette McDonald- Faith Community Nurse
Annette intentionally integrates the practice of faith with the practice of nursing, helping people achieve body, mind and soul wholeness within the church community. Her areas of oversight stretch from mature member care to checking in with new mothers and babies. Annette lives with one of her five children, and enjoys the closeness this affords with her grandchildren.
Mark Dischinger- Lead Custodian
Mark wears many hats, caring for the Brookdale Church facilities, overseeing the Brookdale House project, working alongside Brenda in the Tov Garden, and anything else we can dream up for him. Speaking of hats, Mark has a knack for losing his; if you spot it there may be a reward.
Denise Erickson- Office Administrator
Denise enjoys an eclectic job of clerical work and facility management. She and her co-worker Debbie Felten often share the privilege of being the first face or voice people encounter at Brookdale Church. Holding this position for more than 30 years allows her this close relationship with our community. Denise and her husband Dale have three cats and three nearly grown children.
Debbie Felten- Secretary
Debbie is Denise’s “right hand woman” who specializes in mailings and making people feel right at home at Brookdale Church. She enjoys sending birthday cards to our BCC family and carefully selects each one with that person in mind. Debbie loves spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Tom Haarala- Custodian
You can often find Tom mowing the grass, checking the boilers or making a security walk-through at the end of the day. His professional painting skills also come in handy for sprucing up our worship and learning spaces. Tom is also House Manager at Brookdale House where he lives with his dog Charlie.
Byron Olson- Sound Technician
Byron has been Brookdale Church’s Sound Technician for many years, but his job took an unexpected turn with the advent of live-streaming online worship. He and his team have stepped up to the challenge and have kept BCC’s congregation connected during the pandemic, and for that we are grateful! He and his wife Dianne recently built a cabin and enjoy spending time there, and especially sharing it with grandkids!
Bob Mahova- Custodian
Bob Mahova spends several hours a week cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming and emptying garbage cans. We are grateful for his dedication to keeping Brookdale Church clean. At home, Bob enjoys the company of his cat Gabriel, and occasionally offers to walk friends’ and neighbors’ dogs.
